- American Idol Adam Lambert's iconic television-changing performance at the American Music Awards is forcing ABC to review is policy on preparing for live broadcasts, the network's parent company said on Monday.
Lambert's shocking and daring display of public affection with a male band member while performing his new single "For Your Entertainment," sparked a television upheaval. Lambert said it was an impulsive and spontaneous moment, but defended his actions, saying it was not that different from the infamous Madonna/Britney Spears kiss from the MTV music awards several years ago.
ABC dropped Lambert's scheduled live concert on Good Morning America two days after the AMA flap, but CBS quickly swooped in, devoting most of its two-hour morning show to Lambert's music and the controversy.
According to Reuters, Disney/ABC Television Group President Anne Sweeney said the company would now review the steps it takes to vet live performances by getting assurances from artists that their performances will resemble rehearsals.
Lambert's album was released the day after his performance and he debuted at No. 2 on the charts, selling 230,00 copies.
