Although Carrie Underwood's "Play On" led all American Idol alumni sales last week, according to Idol Chatter/USA Today and Nielsen Soundscan, she had competition as Daughtry's "Leave This Town: B-Sides" hit the Billboard 200 for the first time. Although Daughtry's "B-Sides" had been offered on his website since March, the album was only made available for sale through other outlets two weeks ago. Between the top three American Idol artists on Billboard's album chart last week, the top three (Adam Lambert placed third) accounted for 37,000 albums sold for the week.

Carrie Underwood may not have needed any more album sales to help pay for her massive wedding, but she got some help from that direction anyway. "Play On" sold 12,000 copies. "Some Hearts," her first effort, sold 3,000. Her sophomore album, "Carnival Ride," pushed out another another 2,000 copies. In all, Carrie Underwood, who passed Kelly Clarkson as the number one bestselling Idol alumnus soon after "Play On" was released, increased her total album sales to nearly 11. 8 million. (The all-time American Idol alumni bestsellers list, which is constantly updated, can be found on Wikipedia.org.)

Chris Daughtry and his eponymous band enjoyed a double-shot second spot with "Leave This Town" and "Leave This Town: B-Sides," both selling 6,000 copies. His self-titled first album also sold 3,000 copies. Daughtry now holds down the third-place position on the American Idol alumni bestsellers chart. His three album total places him over the 6 million total sales mark, but still far behind Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson (11.8 and 10.6 million, respectively).

Adam Lambert's debut album sales made him the third biggest-selling American Idol alumnus of the week with 5,000 copies sold of his album, "For Your Entertainment." Adam Lambert is currently in the midst of his nationwide "Glam Nation Tour," which is no doubt boosting sells. Of the alumni, though, Adam Lambert, currently holds down the 16th position, but he is only 7,000 albums shy of Elliot Yamin, who has sold 687,000 copies with his four released albums.
