Adam Lambert feels the love in Staten Island concert

Ben Johnson

Quote :

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The St. George Theatre hosted what proved to be one of Staten Island’s most glitter-dusted concerts last night, as “American Idol” second place winner Adam Lambert performed for a sold-out crowd that deemed him anything but.

Screams and cheers for the raven-haired singer’s antics could be heard blocks away, and the applause was appropriate. Lambert’s vocal abilities and stage presence was as rousing in the 1800-capacity venue as it had been on the eighth season of “Idol.” While his modern rock anthems pulsated from the St. George’s new state of the art sound system, audience members pogo’d, waved and sang along with every song.

Hours before Lambert had even hit the stage, fans of the California-born artist began trickling into the gilded venue on Hyatt Street. Some sported the Egyptian eye symbol tattoo on their wrists (just like his own), or arrived wearing homemade Tee-shirts, bedazzled keys and lightning bolts around their necks.

“Adam wears one just like it,” said Island resident Cara Fusaro, 13, fingering a large twinkling skeleton key on her necklace. “It’s the key to his heart.”

Love was the official theme for the night. The highly choreographed set of music was broken up with short messages: “Sometimes relationships can just suck,” said the singer, before performing his single “Whataya Want From Me.” “But I think if we didn’t have heartache, we wouldn’t know true love.”

Staten Island Audience Treated to Awesome "American Idol" Concert

Bryce Westervelt

Quote :

Adam Lambert, currently thrilling audiences on his current tour, made a stop in New York, performing in front of a sold-out crowd of fans.

Gathering the facts:

Adam Lambert, second place finisher on "American Idol" performed at the St. George Theatre on Staten Island Tuesday night. According to a review of the performance, it was sold-out crowd, that was highly appreciative of Lambert's singing, dancing, and stage show. There was plenty of singing and spectacle to entertain the nearly 1800 screaming fans in attendance.

Around the water cooler:

In this performance Adam Lambert looks like he is channeling some thing between the Mad Hatter in 'Alice in Wonderland' and Boy George. He still has the edgy rock-pop voice that led him to second place on the hit Fox television show "American Idol." Aside from the crazy costumes, Adam's voice still holds up. The cover of Johnny Cash's famous song "Ring of Fire," though a bit odd, somehow works.
