But Cabrillo audiences saw him first, playing the decidedly non-glam role of Lt. Shaw in the 2001 production of “The Secret Garden.” Lambert’s now in the studio, recording his debut album, due in stores Nov. 24 on RCA.
Lewis Wilkenfeld, Cabrillo’s artistic director, directed Lambert in “The Secret Garden” and has stayed in touch with him through the years.
“He e-mailed me right before ‘American Idol’ began, to tell me that he was changing his e-mail address — smart man!,” Wilkenfeld said. “He’s a very decent, down-to-earth guy.
