American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has been fairly quiet about his solo debut, scheduled to be out in November. He recently told People Magazine that half of the album is finished and the accompanying photo session with Robert Sebree is done.
Queen's Brian May, who performed with Lambert on Idol, blogged in August that he got to hear the newly finished Lambert track. As for May, the song - produced by Rob Cavallo (David Cook, Avril Lavigne, Green Day) - isn't expected to appear on Lambert's upcoming LP, but just on the soundtrack for upcoming disaster movie 2012.
Given the disaster feel of 2012, we're thinking this one's going to be a Don't Want to Miss a Thing power ballad.
"I have to say I was completely blown away ... it's truly sensational," May wrote on his blog. "I'm not easily moved to jelly by male vocalists ... but Adam's voice reaches out with sensitivity, depth, maturity, and awesome range and power which will make jaws drop all around the world. It's an awesome performance. No doubt about it."
Lambert also told Rolling Stone earlier this month that he's been working with a diverse team of collaborators including OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, RedOne, Linda Perry, Sam Sparro and more. As for the end product, it sounds as though Lambert is hoping his music makes more than Idol fans' spines tingly: "It's going to feel really sexy," he told RS of the record.
In the People article he says: “There are songs on there that are anthems; there are song that make you want to dance; there are songs that make you feel sexy; there are songs that touch you, hopefully, with more emotional, insightful, deeper lyrics. There are songs that are more in the line with a rock sound. There are some that are really pop-oriented.”
Additionally, according to DonorsChoose.org, the organization Lambert has chosen to support, his fans have raised nearly $50,000 for children and the arts since August 20. Fans have until September 20 to support the cause and win Lambert prizes. For more info on the charity, visit: http://www.donorschoose.org/adamlambert. RockStar Weekly has interviewed Michael Perlman to find out more about DonorsChoose.org and Adam Lambert's fan group. We expect to have the interview online this week.
