American Idol season eight finalists come to Mellon Arena

The television show may be an annual hit, but the American Idol Live! Summer Tours, which feature the top ten finalists from the previous season, have always attracted crowds throughout each of the scheduled dates.

This performance, which will take place at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, August 22nd, 2009 at Mellon Arena will feature finalists from season eight of the hit show. Great seats are still available for the show and will run you between $40 and $70.

While technically season eight's ratings were low (by "Idol" standards anyways), the season was not without it's high points. Throughout the entire season, it seemed as though Adam Lambert, who hailed from San Diego, would make it two straight Idol winners with their influences based heavily in the rock and roll genre (with David Cook winning season seven). Though Lambert seemed to be the favorite going into the season finale, it was Kris Allen, out of Conway, Arkansas, who stole away the title by gaining a record number of votes in an American Idol finale.

For the 10 finalists on the road, "American Idols Live" is part victory lap, part audition to determine who's going to take their shot of fame past the 15-minute mark.

Last night at the Mellon Arena, one thing was clearly reinforced in front of the near sold-out crowd: Adam Lambert is star material.

If Elvis Presley and Edward Scissorhands could somehow have a child, it would look somewhat like this Idol runner-up who has already graced the cover of Rolling Stone and will have to come up with some absolutely abysmal songs to not top the charts when his album drops.

Lambert came out ninth in a swirl of fog to the power chords of "Whole Lotta Love," dressed like a leather-clad villain in "Terrordome." Then he backed up the glam-rock swagger with a beautifully supple voice that can hit the notes and take them to the next level.
