This one went down to the wire, with two of the most passionate fanbases we’ve ever encountered in our tournaments here at Popdust making this a battle for the ages. In the end, just an impossibly scant 229 votes separated the two artists in the finals, with nearly 5.7 million votes cast in all. But upon tournament’s close, we had a winner:American Idol Season Eight runner-up Adam Lambert, your choice for the Greatest Reality TV Music Star of All-Time.
Lambert quickly became one of the most acclaimed contestants in Idol history during his Season Eight run, which took him all the way to the season’s finals, where he lost in a heartbreaker to his good buddy Kris Allen. But Lambert was not done there by any means, scoring a pair of crossover hits off his debut album For Your Entertainment in “If I Had You” and “Whataya Want From Me,” and then making history last year with his second album Trespassing, our favorite album of the first half of 2012, and the first Number One album ever by an openly gay artist.
Adam is indeed a fine choice for pop’s Reality TV G.O.A.T., though Fifth Harmony fans should be commended for their effort in nearly making this the second straight tournament win for them here at Popdust, which would certainly have been a first. The We Are Family Foundation founded by the legendary Nile Rodgers are honouring Adam with a Unity Award.Adam is only the second award recipient and is given to artists who've used their art to unify people. Adam will also take part in the concert being held.
