Best of 2012: More Than Just Some Music That We Used To Know

Sure there was lots of “new music” to get into this past year… from pop trash we liked in spite of ourselves (Carly Rae’s “Call Me Maybe,” everything FUN and LMFAO put out) to hipper than thou indie releases by acts we should’ve/would’ve liked if we simply wanted to appear cool (Grizzly Bear, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Garage) to artists we’re still not quite sure how we feel about (Lana Del Rey, Die Antwoord)… 2013′s music had some highs and lows alright. We loved Fiona Apple, Frank Ocean and The Black Keys offerings but we were less than impressed by all the music by the over-exposed acts on this list... Ultimately, it was seasoned artists we’ve loved for years that got our attention in 2012 and are primed to continue doing so this year.
