Adam Lambert is returning to the American Idol stage in May.
Confirming the news Monday, Lambert announced the fact that he will not only return to the stage that introduced him to the world but will perform a new single.
"Exciting news! I will be returning to American Idol on Thursday, May 17 to perform my new single "Never Close Our Eyes," Lambert confirmed.
"Never Close Our Eyes" is the latest offering from his forthcoming album "Trespassing."

'Trespassing' superstar Adam Lambert has been praised by American Idol's very own Randy Jackson (pictured far right) for his phenomenal ability as a singer.
Jackson, who is a judge on the popular talent show that helped Lambert on his rise to fame back in 2009, took to social networking site Twitter earlier this evening (April 30) and congratulated the vocal sensation on his recent Jimmy Kimmel performance:
"Loved seeing @adamlambert on @jimmykimmel one of our best contestants ever!!!"
Lambert, who treated fans to a stunning rendition of 'Never Close Our Eyes' on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' last week, responded by writing: "Thanks Randy!!! ;)"

Images of Adam Lambert's 'Trespassing' recording sessions have appeared online.
Guitarist Nile Rodgers worked with Lambert on a new track called 'Shady' and today (April 30) he uploaded some photos from the session on his official website.
Writing about the pictures, Rodgers said:
"A few months ago I played on a funky Adam Lambert track called "Shady." Typically, I photograph what goes on in my daily life after being attacked by aggressive cancer last year."
"Since I can't photograph and play guitar at the same time, my guitar tech Terry shoots when I'm playing. He wanted to be respectful of Adam since it was his first time meeting him, so he took these shots as discreetly as possible. But that may be the only thing that remains unchanged with the singer since he entered our collective consciousness on the reality singing show in 2009.With his upcoming second album Trespassing, out here on May 15, Lambert seems to have calmed down, image-wise.
Musically, he turns ups the tempo, but turns down the all-out tongue-flailing slow-rock drama we got used to on Idol and his debut album For Your Entertainment (2009).
He’s 30 now and seems keen to move away from the glam rock god fantasy to explore reality, which he said in a recent interview is the main theme of the album.
“I wanted to let people in. I wanted to throw the gates wide open, even a little bit further than at times I might have been comfortable with,” he said.
