Adam Lambert glams up the Palace

The guy’s got serious pipes and thrilling showmanship. Of this there is no dispute. He can sing the hell out of just about anything, his operatic instrument soaring, shrieking, carrying on like a gospel singer whose dress is afire. It’s a joy to behold live.

But, as Lambert showed during his brief, entertaining, but far less than captivating concert Monday night at the Palace Theatre, he is not yet a complete concert artist. His original material is forgettable, repetitive or both; he doesn’t do enough of the cover tunes that made him a standout on last year’s “American Idol” season; and his between-song patter is embarassingly insipid.
