Adam Lambert says AMAs gay kiss 'went too far'
- Quote :
Adam Lambert has said he should have included a kiss with a man at the American Music Awards in his rehearsal.
The singer had several television appearances cancelled after more than 1,500 US viewers complained about unscripted parts of his performance.
In the November show, he kissed a male keyboard player and simulated oral sex with a male dancer.
After the Parents' Television Council called his performance "tasteless and vulgar", his appearances on Good Morning America, Jimmy Kimmel Live and ABC’s New Years Rockin’ Eve show were cancelled.
According to Digital Spy, he told Oprah Winfrey that he should have been more professional and informed ABC of the gay elements in advance. The network could have been fined for the show.
He said: "I don't regret the actual performance, but I probably would've included the kiss and the gyrating as part of the rehearsal, just so ABC could see whether they liked them."
He continued: "It's about being professional and it's a professionalism I didn't realise before."
Lambert added that "boys on leashes" were a planned part of the performance, but said the kiss "went a little too far for some people".
He said: "The lyric in that part of the song is very risqué and I wanted to be risqué, too."
Speaking just after the AMAs performance, Lambert said he was "just in the moment" and criticised double standards which allowed straight female performers to put on highly sexual shows. | |
