- Sometimes you just really want to hate an album because it sounds trashy.
Then against all conscience it reveals a catchiness and playfulness which sneaks under your skin and burrows in.
That's the case for the debut album, For Your Entertainment, from Adam Lambert, the openly gay runner-up from last year's American Idol.
The track Soaked, penned by Muse's Matt Bellamy, rings of the operatic qualities of his upper register and Fever is right out of the Scissor Sisters playbook, which describes the mix of the Idol also-ran's sound.
It's a festive pop-synth-glam mash-up covering lots of bases where nothing seems sacred apart from mandatory fun and hip-wiggling.
Packed with pinch-hitting songwriters, Sure Fire Winners has the stomp but not the pixie dust which makes you want to pump your fist in the air yet Aftermath rises to the challenge and Pick U Up, co-written by Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, is dance-floor bliss.
Lambert banishes convention and that might just be what makes him addictive. For Your Entertainment is a debut to lift the spirits without trying to read too much into why you are happy to dance about with the blinds open. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/entertainment/a/-/music/7720131/cd-review-adam-lambert/ | |
