- Adam Lambert's single "Whataya Want From Me" reached platinum status in the U.S. yesterday with sales totaling 1,051,000. The song is charting in the top ten in seven countries and is #1 in Germany. Lambert's shared the
good news on twitter." "Great news ladies and g's: Whataya Want From Me has gone Platinum in the USA! Thank you so much for supporting me! I feel so fu**in lucky!"
Lambert's album "For Your Entertainment" is gold in the US, New Zealand and Singapore and double platinum in Canada. Lambert is currently in Europe experiencing an enthusiastic reception for the upcoming European release of his album "For Your Entertainment. Most would say that Adam has had a whirlwind of magazine covers, awards and accomplishments since the end of Season 8 of American Idol. Although Adam is not struggling as suggested by American Idol producer Ken Warwick Lambert's rise to superstardom is complicated because he is breaking all the rules and establishing his international success his way.
Adam defied those that dictate that an album must be genre specific. The conventional thinking is that in order to create an image for branding and marketing purposes, and so that DJ's know where to place you on their play list a recording artist must choose one particular genre and develop a fan base. Any change should only be considered after a few platinum albums and many successful years as an entertainer. Adam defied that rule.
Unlike other new artist Adam is a mature and seasoned professional singer who had a thirty million household laboratory in which to test the appeal of his multi genre vocal dexterity. Adam knew that he could convincingly belt out everything from "Brigadoon" to "Whole Lotta Love". Why should Adam be boxed in artistically when he has the vocal chops to compete in multiple musical genres? The coherence in Lambert's album is his voice; he is gifted with one of the most technically beautiful voices in the history of the music industry.
Adam defied the longstanding paradigm of concealing sensitive personal information until you are an established star. Gene Simmons suggested that Adam had ruined his career with his honesty. Adam is not only unfiltered about his sexuality but has also exposed his past drug use and details of his experiences with women. Some PR experts would suggest that if an artist must make personal revelations they should wait until they are well established, as did Elton John who after selling millions of albums alluded to bisexuality but then transformed himself into a celebrated gay glam-rock icon.
Right out of the celebrity gate Lambert became involved in two scandals. First he was the victim of the American Idol voting outrage when Matt Jordan a rogue AT&T executive helped bring in 38 million Arkansas votes. Lambert was deprived of his victory and many perceived Lambert's loss as a mandate for the suppression of the LGBT community. Second, Adam" AMA performance triggered a stratospheric social media response that reverberated across the globe with mixed reactions. In the US Adam was no longer an American Idol but a naughty boy. Around the world Adam became interesting.
Adam's success has only just begun. He did not enter the recording industry and sell 8.3 millions albums like Susan Boyle because his success will take a different route. Even though Adam has broken all the rules he is an extraordinary entertainer. The emerging legend of Adam Lambert will spread and grow. Many have yet to grasp the depth and the magnitude of Adam's talent.
On American Idol no one was ever more versatile then Adam or took on such difficult covers. Who had the vocal chops to sing Michael Jackson, Mick Jigger, Freddie Mercury, Steven Tyler, Bono, Sam Cook, Smokey Robinson and Robert Plant? Adam, rather than copying them, belted out their songs with his own signature. When Adam sang on American Idol sometimes he was just so much better than anyone else and other times he was ungodly better than everyone else. Season 9 pales in comparison.
Now preparing for the Glam Nation Tour Lambert will be displaying another level of artistry. There may very well have never been a better live performer. You feel the static electricity the minute Lambert takes the stage. It is not just his otherworldly vocal gift it is his spellbinding presence. Lambert over six feet, fit, groomed and glammed is a strikingly handsome man.
Physically Lambert engages every element of his being in the interpretation of a lyric. He darts his eyes or thrusts and grinds his pelvis for added emphases, but every move refines the interpretation and there are endless interpretations to anything he sings. Lambert is an old time storyteller constantly retuning his tale. Lambert is mesmerizing and addicting. If you see him perform live you need to see him again. The magic he creates on stage will be his ticket to becoming an iconic international success. Just like every great entertainer Adam Lambert will break all the rules and do it his way. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2951442/adam_lambert_finds_success_his_way.html?singlepage=true&cat=2 | |
