- Adam Lambert is the first artist performing on the April 9, 2010 revival of VH1 Unplugged with striped down acoustic versions of four songs from his critically acclaimed album For Your Entertainment and a version of
Mad World. Lambert's album has reached Gold status in the US and Singapore and is now Platinum in Canada. The world is recognizing that a new iconic star is emerging from the shekels of a reality show.
With the new season of American Idol well underway we are reminded of the incomparable technical beauty of Lambert's multi octave voice and of his commandeering stage presence. Lambert engaged America vocally and visually week after week with multiple musical genres, costuming lighting and even fog, not just as a singer but as an old time storyteller. Mad World, the only performance on American Idol to garner a standing ovation from Simon Cowell is also Google Trend's highest peaking American Idol performance ever.
Last year we realized American Idol had discovered a show-stopping performer but in the context of that venue the minds of America were manipulated. After Satisfaction what was American Idol to do? Could the judges give Lambert the title and send the rest of them home? The reality show had to pretend a contest was going on. Lambert even mysteriously landed in the bottom three in a week where he vocally out Bubléd Bublé with his version of Feeling Good. No one can forget the visual of his sashay down the flamingo pink staircase in his luminescent white suit. The night of the reveal when Lambert emerged to sing Beth a hush fell as the audience became entranced by the crystal clear beauty of his mid range vocals. Switching gears Adam joined Kiss in an electrifying performance that was the culmination of his Idol journey and proved abundantly and with certainty why he would win.
We knew Adam had a beautiful voice, but it is only now that we are beginning to realize the magnitude of his artistry. The VH1 Unplugged performance displays his raw unadulterated talent. Not just the vocals, with his perfect pitch and timing but the nuances he brings to the lyrics. Adam recreates a song every time he sings it. Just when you think he has wrung every emotion out of a lyric he sits in a lounge on the other side of the world in Sidney with Monty Pittman his guitar player and Longineu Parsons his drummer and blows it away with another extraordinary up tempo version of Mad World. Recently at Lambert's sold out Fantasy Springs Concert he twisted Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love into something bluesy and acoustic that went far beyond singing, for over six minutes the man made love with the music and when he was done, the whole audience needed a cigarette, even the ones who do not smoke.
Lambert's artistry extends beyond vocals to his songwriting ability. He co wrote two songs he performed on VH1 Unplugged, Down the Rabbit Hole and Broken Open displaying the ability to create lyrics with both whimsy and introspection. Three additional songs on versions of his album were co written by him, Strut, Aftermath and Voodoo. With these songs and we have a glimpse of what promises to be a substantial career not only as an electrifying entertainer and but also as a singer / songwriter. As the world is embracing Lambert his own country creates headlines with any perceived misstep. Where are the stories recognizing his genius? http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2806916/adam_lambert_brings_the_cool_back_to_pg2.html?cat=2 | |
