- Recent criticism of his alternative lifestyle and risqué performance at the American Music Awards might have made Adam Lambert fans a little hesitant to buy his debut album, "For Your Entertainment." However, the "American Idol" runner-up demonstrates broad vocal range, writing ability and a variety of genres in the Nov. 23 release.
From upbeat dance tracks and heart-pounding rock songs to moody ballads, Lambert's CD provides a little "entertainment" for everyone. "Sure Fire Winners" has a Queen-like sound while "Strut," a song unsurprisingly co-written by Lambert, matches up to artists like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears.
"Aftermath" is an encouraging pop-rock tune telling listeners to "tell a stranger that they're beautiful" and "fall into the glitter," a lyric very descriptive of Lambert's colorful personality. The song, reminiscent of his "American Idol"days, has a sound similar to that of Daughtry or even his"Idol" opponent Kris Allen. Nevertheless, Lambert consistently adds his own unique flare to every song.
"For Your Entertainment," the song infamously associated with Lambert's promiscuous AMA performance, reflects the performance itself with lyrics like "Let me entertain ya 'til you scream" and "Imma hurt you real good." Surprisingly, this is the only song his younger "Idol" fans should skip.
On "American Idol," Lambert became notorious for his expansive vocal range, putting artists like Freddie Mercury and Maroon 5's Adam Levine to shame. He definitely takes advantage of this talent on the album.
As the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover." This definitely rings true for the cover of "For Your Entertainment," which features an intense head-shot of Lambert covered in his signature, not-so-subtle makeup. Upon first glance, the perception of the CD makes potential listeners a little worried the music will reflect the eccentric cover art. Though he steadily maintains some wild traits throughout the album, Lambert's musical talent and diversity prevail.
Aside from his unconventional ways, Lambert proves skeptics wrong with this album. Hopefully the album is merely a preview to many future hits. http://www.greatfallstribune.com/article/20091214/LIFESTYLE/912140311/Wide-ranging+Lambert+has+something+for+everyone+on+new+CD | |
