| Subject: Kimmel Fighting For Adam To Appear 03.12.09 22:05 | |

- The “American Idol” Season 8 runner-up came under fire in late November after he closed the AMAs show with a racy performance that saw him rub a dancer’s face in his nether regions in a sexual manner, kiss his male keyboardist and give the middle finger to the camera. And now it appears — as a result — he has been seemingly axed from performing on two other ABC programs later this month.
“We decided not to move forward with the booking at this time,” a rep for ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” told Access Hollywood in a statement about what would have been a December 17 appearance on the late night show.
But a source close to the situation told Access that “Jimmy Kimmel Live” took on network executives earlier this week in an attempt to keep the raven-haired wailer on their program.
“The show fought to really try and keep [Adam], but they were told it was a bigger deal [than the show],” the source said.
Adam was originally scheduled to sit down for an interview with the late night host and perform two songs on their outdoor stage.
Allison Iraheta, one of Adam’s fellow “American Idol” Top 10, will now fill the December 17 slot, but the source said “Jimmy Kimmel Live” still wants to get Adam on their show as soon as things cool down.
“Yes, sadly friends, ABC has cancelled my appearances on Kimmel and NYE. :( don’t blame them. It’s the FCC heat,” Adam wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday, hinting that he has also been axed from Dick Clark’s “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2010.”
But just as news broke about Adam’s axing from “Kimmel,” the singer revealed he would be on “The Jay Leno Show” on December 21.
“I AM doing Leno though. And lookin into something for NYE,” Adam wrote.
A rep for Leno revealed to Access on Thursday that Adam will be in studio with Jay and will perform on their stage.
In related Adam news, it appears he’s not the only performer who thrust a back up dancer towards his nether regions during a live show on network TV, only to later feel the weight of the censor hammer.
While Adam’s performance made it on to the East Coast feed, he was censored when the show aired on the West Coast.
In 2003, however, Pink was censored on both feeds for her Billboard Awards performance on FOX, which saw her grab her crotch, roll around on stage equipment in a sexually-charged fashion and, at one point, thrust a male dancer’s head toward her nether regions.
As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, minutes after he left the stage at the AMAs, Adam said he was going to be upset if his performance was edited for the West Coast.
“If it’s edited, that’s discrimination… I will be a little disappointed because there is a little bit of discrimination going in this country. There’s a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I’m a male, and I’ll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem,” he said. http://www.accesshollywood.com/_article_26275 | |
