| Subject: Lasciviousness of Adam Lambert Exposes Homophobia in News Media 26.11.09 18:07 | |

- Scandals are serving Adam Lambert well. He is one of the most talked about people this week.
“American Idol” runner-up Lambert visited “The Early Show” on CBS Wednesday morning to discuss being dropped from “Good Morning America”’s roster after they disapproved of his raunchy performance on Sunday’s American Music Awards in Los Angeles.
He was scheduled to perform live on “GMA” Wednesday but was cancelled Tuesday Before the cancellation, he was booked to perform on “TES,” and they moved up his appearance to discuss the controversy.
An ABC News spokesperson confirmed with “Access Hollywood” Tuesday that they did cancel Lambert’s scheduled performance: “Given his controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.”
During the pre-taped “The Early Show” interview with Maggie Rodriguez, Lambert said, “I’m not a babysitter; I’m a performer.”
“Lady Gaga, smashing whiskey bottles; Janet Jackson grabbing a male dancer’s crotch; Eminem talked about how Slim Shady has 17 rapes under his belt,” he said. “There was a lot of very adult material on the AMAs this year, and I know I wasn’t the only one.”
“If it had been a female pop performer doing the moves that were on the stage I don’t think there’d be nearly as much of an outrage at all…I think it’s a double whammy. I think it’s because I’m a gay male.”
Hopefully, “GMA” did not object to his performance for kissing another man, but rather objected to him sexually degrading people, such as when he walked a couple dancers around on leashes and grabbed the head of one of his male employees and pushed him into his crotch to simulate forced oral sex, i.e. rape.
Lambert is right; he does not necessarily have to tone down his sexually-charged performances and is not responsible for what children are seeing. The show has the responsibility of censoring what they deem inappropriate to broadcast.
Yes, many musicians, especially pop rock women, perform with very skanky and overly-sexual displays. However, is being the raunchiest performer really something to aspire to become? Are there not more creative ways to do something to get people’s attention. Maybe fly into the theater on a spaceship or create an underwater set – get your brainstorm brewing.
Sadly, during his “Early Show” interview the show producers displayed their bigotry and sexism when they re-broadcasted part of Lambert’s AMA performance by blurred the part when he kissed the male keyboardist; however, in the same segment, they showed video of Madonna kissing Britney Spears at a past VMA.

If they did not have double-standards, they would have blurred out the Madonna and Britney lesbian kiss.
Tuesday morning after the “GMA” cancellation was announced, Lambert called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and said, “It’s choreography, we were dancing. The sexuality of it kind of got a little more extreme when I got up on stage. I think the adrenaline kind of took me over, and I admit it, and I’m proud of the fact that I did get a little carried away.”
“I don’t feel I owe anyone an apology for anything. I performed, it was late night TV, I did something that female performers have been doing for years, no different. It’s just the fact that I’m me and it’s a little different for people. It’s really not that big of a deal. I’m not a babysitter; I’m a performer.”
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) president Jarrett Barrios issued the following statement Tuesday after discussions with “Good Morning America” staff following their decision to cancel Lambert’s performance: “Some music performances, regardless of the sexual orientation of the performer, are tailored for a primetime audience but not for a morning show audience. It is disappointing that ‘Good Morning America’ did not give Adam Lambert the opportunity to tailor his performance to their audience, as he did on their show in August 2009. We applaud the ‘CBS Early Show’ for taking this opportunity to work with Lambert on a performance that is entertaining for an early morning television audience.”
During calls with GLAAD, “Good Morning America” confirmed that sexual orientation did not play a role in their decision.
Lambert had already performed on “GMA” during their summer concert series in August.
By Tuesday, ABC received around 1,500 negative comments regarding Adam’s “AMAs” performance, which is considered “moderate.” adam lambert ama 2009 middle finger
The Parents Television Council (PTC) does not think “GMA” should have canceled Adam’s performance.
Dan Isett, Director of Public Policy for the PTC told “Access Hollywood” Tuesday, “I do think it’s a little bit unfortunate. This is not a personal crusade against Adam Lambert.
“The idea that he should be scrubbed from TV completely is not where we’re going. It may be a bit of an overreaction on ABC’s part. The important thing is that networks have the easy ability to air on a delay to prevent this sort of thing.”
However, PTC did object to Adam’s performance on the AMAs. Lambert “chose to treat American families to simulated (sic) sex and other demeaning behavior,” president of the PTC Tim Winter said on Monday.
Winter continued, “ABC and Dick Clark Productions had every reason to know what to expect, as Lambert himself proclaimed that his performance would be ‘very sexy’ and would include leather and chains. But the producers and the network chose to bury their heads in the sand.”
On Monday, Lambert pre-taped a performance for the “Late Show With David Letterman” singing Pink’s song “Whataya Want from Me,” which aired Wednesday.
