Queen + Adam Lambert Play Madison Square Garden
Brian May, Roger Taylor prove that they’re far from biting the dust at Madison Square Garden gig
Kevin Coughlin at The New York Daily News wrote:
The last time Queen performed at Madison Square Garden was on two steamy July nights during the "Hot Space Tour" in 1982, with Billy Squier as the opening act.
Fast-forward 32 years later, and Queen is once again the headlining act on a steamy July night in the World's Most Famous Arena. Well, at least half of the original Queen line-up; founding members Brian May on guitar and Roger Taylor on drums. Both gents showing their age, especially May, sporting a dazzling grey-white Moses mane.
Completing the band, billed now as Queen + Adam Lambert, is bass player Neil Fairclough (replacing original bassist John Deacon who retired in 1997), back-up drummer Rufus Tiger Taylor, and keyboardist Spike Edney....read more
Adam Lambert and Queen amaze at New York's Madison Square Garden
Markos Papadatos wrote:
On July 17, Grammy-nominated pop star Adam Lambert fronted the iconic rock band Queen at their Madison Square Garden concert in New York City. The stage was graced in a white backdrop with the Queen logo, that changed to blue, as Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Brian May and Roger Taylor took the stage as Lambert belted out the opener "Now I'm Here." Lambert was dressed in black leather, guyliner, and spikes and even sported black sunglasses and black nail polish............read more
Queen + Adam Lambert Create Magic at Madison Square Garden
Lambert's dream of playing Madison Square Garden comes true.
Michele Amabile Angermiller of The Hollywood Reporter wrote:
Back in March, when the Queen + Adam Lambert tour was first announced, Lambert sat in the front lobby of Madison Square Garden and told reporters that playing the famed arena was a dream of his.
On July 17, Lambert’s dream came true as he stood in front of a packed house that included View host Whoopi Goldberg, stepping in for the late Freddie Mercury on a summer night that Queen guitarist Brian May said was filled with “magic.”
Standing behind a curtain and shrouded in a dark silhouette, Lambert seemed to take a moment to gather himself before unleashing his masterful vocal acrobatics on the opening number, “Now I’m Here...........read more
Brian, Roger, Adam and Freddie Take NYC By Storm
Mayra Bitsko wrote:
Madison Square Garden was rocking tonight with Brian May on guitar, Roger Taylor and son Rufus Taylor on drums, and Adam Lambert as lead. Exuberant Adam was sensational to say the least.
Flashbacks of the one and only legend Freddie Mercury appeared throughout the night. Moreover, Queen programmed Freddie to sing with Brian and Adam on two different occasions, which in turn brought tears to many. Freddie is gone but not forgotten.
Adam beautifully sang major songs such as Under Pressure, Radio Gaga, Fat Bottom Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and of course We Are The Champions. Lambert did not imitate Freddie in any way. In fact, he paid respect to the legend with a touching speech on how Freddie is the one and only, how he can never be replaced and how grateful he was to be able to sing these amazing songs. Nevertheless, Lambert together with Queen gave the fans a concert to remember. And without a doubt, Adam put his mark on that stage tonight. A genuine collaboration and respect was visible among Roger, Brian and Adam. Queen and Adam are a match Made In Heaven..........
Adam Lambert, with Queen, shines under pressure
Glenn Gamboa of Newsday wrote:
This shouldn't work. In fact, there was a moment in the middle of the Queen + Adam Lambert show at Madison Square Garden Thursday night when it seemed like it might not.
It came when guitarist Brian May was essentially leading a sing-along of "Love of My Life," with the audience taking up the parts of the late Freddie Mercury. Then, a video of Mercury completing the song was shown, bringing the crowd to its feet and May to tears.
Why exactly did they need Lambert again?
After all, up to that point the former "American Idol" runner-up and current "Glee" star had proved to be a good study, but not necessarily ready to front the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band. Leading the crowd in a chant of "Bite It!" during "Another One Bites the Dust" didn't exactly help.........read more
Queen Is The Perfect Vehicle For Adam Lambert
Quote :
QUEEN ADAM --- From PR-pasha Randy Alexander, who was sitting front-and-center in Philadelphia: “Thrilled I decided at the last minute to pick up tix and take my son Harrison to see the Queen and Adam Lambert concert last night. Never much paid any attention to Lambert before, nor have I ever had any desire to consider even semi-seriously following him. But after seeing him last night fronting Queen, he's got a new fan right here, certainly in this vehicle.
To say he was perfect in this role is with the greatest respect to Freddie Mercury. I saw the tour with Paul Rodgers six years ago, and Lambert energizes the band in a way Rodgers never did. Lambert not only has the natural flamboyance, but his original interpretations of the Queen catalogue and how to present these indelible songs vocally and theatrically were spot-on while making them his own.
More astounding was how effortlessly he delivered his vocal acrobatics - dare I say even more effortlessly than Freddie himself, as was proven each time the video screen gave us the chance to compare/contrast against vintage Mercury clips. True, there was and will only be one Freddie Mercury, rest his soul. But with Lambert out front, ya gotta hand it to him - this version is a greater tribute than ever imagined. It's Killer Queen.”
Dream reunions that could compete with Queen and Adam Lambert They would rock you
Jed Gottileb at The Boston Herald wrote:
I’m cool with Queen and Adam Lambert headlining the TD Garden on Tuesday.
Will it measure up to Queen with Freddie Mercury? No. Will it come anywhere remotely close to Queen with Freddie? Again, no. But guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor want to play (and, importantly, still can play) and Lambert has the vocal chops to make it a fun show.
As long as a band respects its legacy and markets a tour correctly — notice, the Garden gig isn’t listed as just Queen; Queen is gone forever and May and Taylor know that. Shouldn’t worthy acts take great music on the road? Here are a few ideas for promoters to push.......read more
